PCSD diligently working to keep schools safe

Attention Prairie County residents, 

Information that has been circulating on social media, according to Prairie County Sheriff Department (PCSD) Rick Hickman, that threats about school shootings have been on the rise. 


On Aug. 20 the Federal Bureau (FBI) office in Little Rock issued a general awareness statement about information they received relating to possible school shootings in Arkansas and Kentucky, he explained. 


Although PCSD is not aware of any specific threats to the schools in are area.

"We are taking this issue very serious, Hickman explained. "We will be working with the (Arkansas) State Police, Hazen (Police Department)and Des Arc (Police Department) to ensure our children and school staff are safe and secure. These kids are our future."

Sheriff Hickman will have deputies conducting patrols in and around the schools to assist our local police departments in keeping the children, teachers, staff and visitors safe.

Remember, if resident see something, Hickman asks that they report it immediately.
